At the end of 2016, Bradfords Building Supplies came to us with a brief. They wanted a campaign identity for a repeating monthly promotion.

The idea was, every 30 days Bradfords would highlight 9 or 10 products. They would be trade necessities offered at astonishing prices, and they would change each and every month.

In itself, that was fairly straightforward. But Bradfords had one extra demand. They wanted it to have a conversational name. A moniker, which would promote conversation in store. For example; a builder comes up to the counter:

‘Hi mate, what products will be in (new campaign name) next month’.

It had to be something people would say, something people wouldn’t feel stupid saying, and most of all was catchy and cool.

Now THIS was a challenge we could really get our teeth into! The name of this campaign became a whole-studio job. We had a big brainstorming session with all our designers, some of whom didn’t even work on the Bradfords account. We briefed them in and then opened the floodgates of ideas.

‘The Mix’ appeared fully formed. It was a lightbulb moment of brilliance. We knew that it sounded great in conversation, ‘What’s in the Mix this month?’. We knew it spoke of an assorted and changing promotion that constantly refreshed and the cherry on top? We could use a cement mixer as the brand identity.

Now every month we produce POS posters for both in-store and out the front of the branch. We have made shelf strips and shelf talkers with price points, and a 2 sided A5 flyer every month that highlights all the products featured.

Only 3 months into 2017, the Mix has become a permanent fixture, right at home in the Bradfords branding sphere, and is already well loved by customers and employees alike. Bradfords have noticed a great pickup of the campaign by their clientele and have plans to take it to the next level with some custom POS standees.
